Instructions:

  1. Cream shortening and cream cheese. In a large mixing bowl, combine the shortening and cream cheese, blending until smooth and creamy.

  2. Gradually add sugar and mix well. Incorporate the sugar into the creamed mixture gradually, ensuring it is well combined.

  3. Beat in egg yolk and vanilla. Add the egg yolk and vanilla extract to the mixture, beating until fully incorporated and the mixture is light and fluffy.

  4. Sift flour with salt and cinnamon; gradually add to cream mixture. In a separate bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, salt, and cinnamon. Gradually add this dry mixture to the creamed mixture, stirring until a soft dough forms.

  5. Add food coloring if desired. For a festive touch, add food coloring to the dough and mix until the desired hue is achieved.

  6. Fill cookie press and form cookies on ungreased cookie sheets. Load the cookie press with the dough and press out cookies onto ungreased cookie sheets, forming them into desired shapes.

  7. Bake in a preheated 350-degree oven for 12-15 minutes. Place the cookie sheets in a preheated oven and bake the cookies for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden brown.

  8. Cool before removing from baking dish. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Enjoy these Cream Cheese Spritz Cookies as a delightful treat during the holiday season, or any time you crave a deliciously nostalgic sweet treat!
