Spicy Chicken in Savory Sauce

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 kg chicken, cut into bite-sized pieces (or use chicken fillets)
  • 2 packets spicy all-purpose seasoning
  • 1 large egg
  • Tomato ketchup, to taste
  • Extra hot sauce, to taste
  • Sweet soy sauce, to taste
  • 1 large onion, finely sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 red curly chilies, sliced
  • Seasoning and sugar, to taste

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Chicken:

    • Rinse the chicken pieces thoroughly and cut them into bite-sized chunks. If using chicken fillets, cut them into similar-sized pieces.
  2. Coat the Chicken:

    • In a mixing bowl, combine 1 large egg with a splash of water to make a wet batter. Dip each piece of chicken into this batter.
    • Next, coat the battered chicken pieces in the spicy all-purpose seasoning. For even coating, place the chicken and seasoning in a sealed container, shake vigorously until well-coated.
  3. Fry the Chicken:

    • Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Fry the coated chicken pieces until they turn golden brown and crispy. Once cooked, remove the chicken from the pan and set aside.
  4. Prepare the Sauce:

    • In the same pan, add a little more oil if needed, then sauté the minced garlic, finely sliced onion, and red chilies until fragrant and slightly softened.
    • Add a splash of water to the pan and stir to combine.
  5. Create the Sauce:

    • Stir in tomato ketchup, extra hot sauce, and sweet soy sauce. Adjust the amounts to suit your taste preferences.
    • Add a pinch of sugar and seasoning. Stir well and cook until the sauce thickens and the flavors meld together.
  6. Combine and Serve:

    • Return the fried chicken to the pan, tossing to coat the pieces evenly with the sauce. Allow it to cook for a few more minutes, ensuring the chicken is well-coated and heated through.
    • Once the sauce has thickened to your liking and the chicken is well-coated, remove from heat.
  7. Serving:

    • Serve the spicy chicken hot, garnished with additional chopped chilies or herbs if desired. Enjoy with steamed rice or your favorite side dishes.
