Description:

This Sweet and Sour Balti Chicken recipe is a beloved favorite in my family, often making an appearance on our weekend dinner table. With just the right amount of spice and sweetness, it’s a dish that satisfies the taste buds and warms the soul. You can adjust the heat level to your preference, but for us, two green chillies add just the right amount of kick. This dish is simply gorgeous and bursting with flavor!

Ingredients:

  • 3 tablespoons tomato puree
  • 2 tablespoons plain yogurt
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons mango chutney
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 2 green chillies, sliced
  • 1-2 tablespoons fresh coriander, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • Warm Indian breads or rice, for serving

Instructions:

Step Description
1 In a blender, combine the tomato puree, yogurt, garam masala, chili powder, minced garlic, mango chutney, salt, and sugar. Blend until smooth and well combined.
2 Heat oil in a karahi or wok over medium heat. Once hot, add the blended mixture to the pan.
3 Lower the heat and let the mixture cook for about two minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
4 Add the chicken pieces to the pan and stir until they are well coated with the mixture.
5 Pour in the water and continue cooking for an additional 5-7 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through and tender. Stir occasionally.
6 Once the chicken is cooked, add the sliced green chillies and chopped coriander to the pan. Stir them in along with the milk.
7 Cook for another two minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
8 Serve your Sweet and Sour Balti Chicken hot with warm Indian breads or rice. Enjoy the burst of flavors!
