Preparation:

  1. Prep the Figs: Start by thoroughly washing the figs. Cut them into thin wedges, ensuring each slice is about the same thickness for uniformity.

  2. Grate the Grana Padano: Using a vegetable peeler, shave thin, delicate slivers of Grana Padano cheese. These cheese flakes will add an aromatic richness to each bite.

  3. Assemble the Pastries: Place one filo pastry sheet on a flat surface. Carefully arrange two wedges of fig on each sheet, ensuring they are evenly spaced.

  4. Drizzle with Honey: Gently drizzle honey over the figs and cheese, adding just enough to enhance the flavor without overpowering it.

  5. Bake to Perfection: Fold the filo pastry edges to encase the figs and cheese. If needed, secure the pastry at the ends. Arrange them on a baking tray and bake according to the filo pastry instructions, usually at 375°F (190°C) for 15-20 minutes or until golden and crisp.

  6. Final Touches: Once out of the oven, let the filo pastries cool slightly. Serve them warm or at room temperature, garnished with a final drizzle of honey for extra sweetness.

Tips:

  • Ensure the filo pastry is crisp and golden to contrast beautifully with the sweetness of the figs and the richness of the cheese.
  • You can adjust the amount of honey based on your personal sweetness preference.
