Flavorful Black Pepper Beef Stir-Fry with Bell Peppers

Daging Sapi Lada Hitam (Black Pepper Beef)

Ingredients:

  • 500 grams of sirloin beef, thinly sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, cut into cubes
  • 1 red bell pepper, cut into cubes
  • 1 large onion, cut into cubes
  • 10 cloves of garlic, finely chopped
  • 1 cm of ginger, grated
  • 4 tablespoons of ground black pepper (optional, can be adjusted)
  • 1 teaspoon of cornstarch, dissolved in 2 tablespoons of water
  • Salt and sugar, to taste
  • 5 tablespoons of water
  • Oil for sautéing

Marinade Ingredients:

  • 3-4 tablespoons of oyster sauce
  • 3 tablespoons of sweet soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon of soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon of sesame oil

Instructions:

  1. Marinate the Beef:

    • Coat the thinly sliced beef with the marinade ingredients: oyster sauce, sweet soy sauce, soy sauce, and sesame oil.
    • Let the beef marinate for at least 1 hour to absorb all the flavors.
  2. Sauté Aromatics:

    • Heat a bit of oil in a wok or large pan over medium heat.
    • Add the finely chopped garlic and grated ginger. Sauté until fragrant and slightly golden.
  3. Cook the Beef:

    • Add the marinated beef to the pan. Sauté until the beef is evenly browned.
    • Pour in 5 tablespoons of water, cover the pan, and let it simmer for about 5 minutes to ensure the beef is tender.
  4. Combine with Vegetables:

    • Remove the lid, check if the seasoning needs to be adjusted by adding more soy sauce or oyster sauce if needed.
    • Add the cubed bell peppers, onion, and ground black pepper. Mix well.
  5. Thicken the Sauce:

    • Add salt and sugar to taste.
    • Pour in the cornstarch mixture, stirring continuously until the sauce thickens and coats the beef and vegetables evenly.
  6. Final Touches:

    • Once everything is well-mixed and the sauce has thickened, taste and adjust the seasoning if necessary.
    • Turn off the heat and transfer the dish to a serving plate.
  7. Serve and Enjoy:
