Description

We found out my husband has very high cholesterol, and we have had to become creative. We took an original family recipe and modified it using regular mild Italian sausage with turkey sausage, heavy cream with low-fat milk, and more.

Ingredients

3 cups Low-fat milk
3 tbsp Fat-free mayonnaise
1 unit Egg
1/2 cup Cornstarch
1/2 cup Fat-free mozzarella cheese
2 tsp Cayenne pepper
1 tsp Tabasco sauce
1 unit Pie shell
3/4 cup Mild Italian sausage, ground
For Garnish
1/4 cup Fat-free mozzarella cheese (reserved)

Instructions

  1. Brown the Sausage:

    • Brown the mild Italian sausage, then ground it into small pieces.
    • Drain and rinse with hot water. Set aside.
  2. Preheat the Oven:

    • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  3. Prepare the Filling:

    • In a medium-sized bowl, mix together the low-fat milk, fat-free mayonnaise, egg, cornstarch, fat-free mozzarella cheese, cayenne pepper, and Tabasco sauce.
    • Remember to set aside 1/4 cup of the fat-free mozzarella cheese for later use.
  4. Assemble the Pie:

    • Pour the prepared mixture into the pie shell, spreading it evenly.
  5. Bake the Pie:

    • Bake the pie in the preheated oven for 35 minutes.
    • After 35 minutes, remove the pie from the oven and sprinkle the reserved 1/4 cup of fat-free mozzarella cheese on top.
    • Return the pie to the oven and bake for an additional 5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  6. Serve and Enjoy:

    • Once baked to golden perfection, remove the pie from the oven and let it cool slightly.
    • Slice into wedges and serve warm.
