Sup Gurame Honje (Gurame Fish Soup with Honje)

Ingredients

Honje (Kecombrang Flower) 2 Tangkai
Carrots 2 Buah
Galangal 1 Ruas
Ginger 1 Ruas
Bay Leaves 2 Lembar
Lime 2 Buah
Salt 1 Sdm
Flavor Enhancer To taste
Water 2 1/2 Gelas

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Fish: Clean the gurame fish thoroughly and marinate it with the juice of the lime and salt. Allow it to sit for 5 minutes to reduce the fishy smell.

  2. Chop the Aromatics: Thinly slice the shallots, garlic, and honje. Bruise the galangal, ginger, and stalks of honje for added flavor. Don’t forget to slice the chili and carrots as well.

  3. Steam the Fish: Steam the gurame fish for 20 minutes. This step is essential to keep the fish intact for the soup.

  4. Sauté the Ingredients: While the fish is steaming, sauté the shallots, garlic, galangal, ginger, and bay leaves until fragrant. Add the honje, followed by the carrots, and pour in 2 1/2 glasses of water. Bring to a boil until the carrots are tender.

  5. Combine Everything: After steaming, carefully place the fish into the pot with the sautéed ingredients and carrots. Add flavor enhancer to taste (approximately 2 teaspoons, but adjust according to preference). Remember to taste and adjust seasoning as needed!

  6. Add Heat: After 2 minutes, add the sliced chili to the pot, allowing it to simmer for 5 minutes for the flavors to meld.

  7. Serve: And there you have it! Your Gurame Honje is ready to be served—fragrant and utterly appetizing. Enjoy!
