Ingredients

Ingredient Quantity
Rose petals Untreated, various colors
Egg whites 1
Granulated sugar To taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Rose Petals:
Begin by carefully picking a fully bloomed rose, using one hand to hold the entire flower. With your other hand, gently twist the base of the rose to release the petals. This should allow the petals to come off easily without breaking. At the end of this step, youโ€™ll have one hand holding the full flower and the other holding the rose stem and base. Be sure to check and clean each petal individually using a very soft cloth.

  2. Prepare Egg Whites and Sugar:
After cleaning the petals, place them into a clean bowl. Next, separate the egg yolk from the egg white. Place the egg white in a small bowl. In another bowl, pour some granulated sugarโ€”this will be used to coat the petals.

  3. Coating the Petals:
Take each rose petal and, using a cooking brush, lightly and completely brush it with the egg white. This step will ensure that the sugar adheres to the petal. Be gentle to avoid damaging the delicate petals.

  4. Drying Process:
Once each petal is coated with egg white, arrange them on a tray, ensuring they donโ€™t overlap. Leave the tray in a dry, safe place to allow the petals to dry fully. The petals should become firm and crisp as they dry.

  5. Decoration:
Once your iced rose petals are completely dry, they are ready to be used as beautiful decorations! They can be used to garnish cakes, cupcakes, ice cream, cream-based desserts, mousses, fruit salads, and much more. Their delicate, frosted appearance adds a touch of elegance to any dessert.

Tips

  • Always use untreated roses, ensuring they have not been exposed to harmful chemicals, especially if they are going to be used for food purposes.
  • If you want to add a subtle shimmer, you can lightly dust the finished iced petals with edible glitter.
