Instructions:

  1. Prepare the fava bean pods: Begin by boiling water in a large pot, as this will be used to blanch the fava bean pods. While the water heats up, take the fava beans and clean them. Use a small knife to remove the central filament from the pods. If you prefer, you can wear gloves while cleaning the beans to avoid any dirt or residue getting under your nails.

  2. Rinse the pods: Once the fava beans are cleaned, rinse them thoroughly under cold running water to remove any remaining dirt or impurities.

  3. Blanch the fava pods: Once the water is boiling, immerse the fava pods into the pot and allow them to cook for about 5 minutes. This will help soften them and preserve their vibrant color.

  4. Cool down the pods: After 5 minutes, drain the fava pods and rinse them immediately with cold water to stop the cooking process and maintain their texture.

  5. Infuse the olive oil: If you prefer a milder garlic flavor, slice the garlic clove in half and remove its inner germ. Heat a pan with the extra virgin olive oil and gently infuse the garlic by sautéing it for a brief moment. Once the garlic becomes fragrant, remove it from the oil.

  6. Cook the fava pods: Add the prepped fava bean pods to the hot oil. Stir-fry them over high heat for a few minutes until they become tender and aromatic.

  7. Add chili for spice: While the fava beans cook, slice the fresh chili pepper in half, remove the seeds, and cut it into thin strips. Add the chili to the pan and continue stir-frying for an additional minute.

  8. Season to taste: Season the dish with salt and black pepper to your liking. Let everything cook together for another minute to allow the flavors to meld.
