Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
1 cup Sugar
1/2 cup Shortening
2 Eggs
1 Tart apple
2 cups All-purpose flour
1/2 tsp Salt
1 tsp Baking soda
1 cup Pecan pieces
1 1/2 cups Buttermilk
1/2 tsp Vanilla extract
3 tbsp Sugar
1 tsp Cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prep: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius). Grease a 10x6x3 inch loaf pan with butter or cooking spray.

  2. Prepare Sugar Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, cream together 1 cup of sugar and 1/2 cup of shortening until light and fluffy.

  3. Incorporate Eggs and Apples: Add 2 eggs to the sugar mixture, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Peel and grate 1 tart apple, then add it to the mixture.

  4. Sift Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, sift together 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, and 1 teaspoon of baking soda.

  5. Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: Gradually add the sifted dry ingredients to the sugar mixture, mixing until just combined. Stir in 1 cup of pecan pieces until evenly distributed.

  6. Add Buttermilk and Vanilla: Pour in 1 1/2 cups of buttermilk and 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract into the batter, stirring until smooth and well combined.

  7. Transfer to Loaf Pan: Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan, spreading it out evenly with a spatula.

  8. Prepare Topping: In a small bowl, mix together 3 tablespoons of sugar and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon.

  9. Add Topping and Bake: Sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture evenly over the top of the batter in the loaf pan.

  10. Bake: Place the loaf pan in the preheated oven and bake for approximately 1 hour, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  11. Cool and Serve: Once baked, remove the apple bread from the oven and allow it to cool in the pan for 10-15 minutes. Then, transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing and serving.

This Fresh Apple Bread is perfect for breakfast, brunch, or as a sweet treat any time of day. Enjoy its moist texture, delightful apple flavor, and crunchy pecan topping!
