Ingredients
- 3/4 cup beer
- 4 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon active dry yeast (divided)
- 1 cup bread flour
- 1/3 cup milk
- 1 egg
- 4 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 cups bread flour
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon active dry yeast (additional for finishing)
- Bread machine yeast
Instructions
For the Starter:
- In a medium mixing bowl, combine the beer and brown sugar.
- Sprinkle the first teaspoon of yeast over the beer mixture; stir until dissolved.
- Stir in the first cup of bread flour until well mixed.
- Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let it stand at room temperature (75-85Β°F) for 12 to 24 hours.
- Pro Tip: Placing the bowl in the oven with the light on (for electric ovens) or near the pilot light (for gas ovens) aids in the proofing process.
To Finish the Bread:
- Add the prepared starter along with the remaining ingredients to your bread machine according to the manufacturer’s directions.
- Select the basic white bread cycle on your machine and let it work its magic!
