Ingredients:

  • 1 loaf of bread
  • 1 cup of milk
  • 1/2 cup of butter, melted
  • 1 cup of white sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 3 teaspoons of vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup of raisins
  • 1/2 cup of brown sugar

Instructions:

Step Description
1 Break the bread into small chunks in a large bowl.
2 Add the white sugar and melted butter and stir until well combined.
3 Add the eggs one at a time, alternating with the milk, stirring well after each addition to ensure thorough incorporation. Continue until all the eggs and milk are used.
4 Stir in the vanilla extract and raisins until evenly distributed throughout the mixture.
5 Pour the mixture into a greased 9 x 13 inch pan (Note: Sometimes the 13 x 9 inch pan may get overfull depending on the size of the loaf of bread).
6 Sprinkle the brown sugar evenly over the top of the bread mixture, using your fingers to crumble it for better distribution.
7 Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake the pudding for 1 hour, or until golden brown and set.
8 Allow the pudding to cool for 20 to 30 minutes before serving, as it will firm up slightly as it cools.
9 Serve warm or chilled, as desired. Enjoy the comforting flavors of Aunt Emma’s Bread Pudding!

Tips:

  • For added richness, you can use half-and-half or heavy cream instead of milk.
  • Experiment with different types of bread, such as brioche or challah, for variations in flavor and texture.
  • Serve with a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an extra indulgent treat.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated before serving.
