Ingredients:

Quantity Ingredient
12 Green onions
1 1/4 Gingerroot
1 1/2 White wine vinegar
1 1/2 Sugar
1 Egg
2 Boneless chicken breasts
1 Garlic clove
1/2 Soy sauce
16 Sheets of phyllo pastry
1/2 Cooking spray

Instructions:

  1. Prepare Ingredients:

    • Remove the tops of the green onions and set aside the white portions.
    • Cut the green onion tops into very thin strips and place them in a bowl of ice water.
    • Slice the white portions of 3 onions and reserve the remaining onions for later use.
    • Slice the gingerroot into thin pieces.
  2. Prepare Chicken Filling:

    • In a food processor, combine the chicken breasts, gingerroot, white wine vinegar, sugar, egg, garlic clove, and soy sauce.
    • Process the mixture for 30 seconds until well combined, scraping down the sides as needed.
    • Stir in the sliced onions into the chicken mixture.
  3. Assemble Firecrackers:

    • Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
    • Lay one sheet of phyllo pastry on a damp towel and lightly coat it with cooking spray.
    • Layer three phyllo sheets on top of each other, spraying each layer lightly with cooking spray.
    • Cut the phyllo stack in half lengthwise, then cut each half into thirds to make six stacks. Keep them covered with a damp towel to prevent drying out.
    • Spoon one tablespoon of the chicken mixture onto the center of a phyllo stack, leaving about 1 1/2 inches of space on each end.
    • Roll up the phyllo stack jellyroll fashion, starting from the long sides, then twist 1 1/2 inches from each end.
    • Place the firecrackers seam side down on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or coated with cooking spray.
  4. Bake:

    • Bake the firecrackers in the preheated oven for 15 minutes or until they turn golden brown.
  5. Serve:

    • Tie each end of the firecrackers with a strip of green onion.
    • Serve the Oriental Firecrackers warm with hot horseradish mustard for dipping.

Enjoy these crispy, savory appetizers that pack a flavorful punch! 🥢🔥 Perfect for any occasion, these Oriental Firecrackers are sure to be a hit with your family and friends.
