Ingredients:

  • 8 flour tortillas
  • 2 wheat flour tortillas
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup green onion
  • Salt (optional)
  • Peanut oil (for deep frying)

Instructions:

Step Description
1 Brush 4 tortillas with sesame oil, then evenly distribute some of the beaten egg over each tortilla.
2 Sprinkle about 2 tablespoons of finely chopped green onions over each tortilla.
3 Top each tortilla with one of the remaining wheat flour tortillas. Press firmly around the edges to seal. Cover the cakes with plastic wrap or wax paper and place a plate on top. Let them sit for 15 minutes to ensure the edges are well-sealed.
4 While waiting, heat peanut oil in a wok or deep pan to 400°F (200°C) for deep frying.
5 Using tongs, carefully slip each tortilla cake into the hot oil, one at a time.
6 Cook the cakes, turning occasionally, until they become puffy and golden brown on both sides.
7 Once cooked, remove each cake from the oil and drain them vertically over the pan to remove excess oil.
8 Then, drain them again on paper towels to further remove any excess oil.
9 While still hot, cut each cake into 4 to 8 wedges, depending on your preference.
10 If desired, sprinkle the cakes lightly with salt for added flavor.
