Crispy Tahu Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 Chinese tofu blocks (or any tofu variety), boiled with a pinch of salt, then cut into small cubes and set aside
  • 1 small package of crispy flour mix (store-bought or homemade; the original recipe involves mixing wheat flour with rice flour and one egg; for convenience, use pre-made crispy flour mix)
  • 6 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • Enough water to create a batter

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Tofu:

    • Boil the tofu blocks with a pinch of salt until cooked through. Drain and cut into small cubes. Set aside.
  2. Make the Batter:

    • In a mixing bowl, combine the crispy flour mix with the all-purpose flour. Gradually add water to the mixture, stirring until you achieve a slightly runny consistency—not too thick or too thin.
  3. Fry the Tofu:

    • Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Fry the tofu cubes until they begin to turn golden.
  4. Coat and Fry Again:

    • While the tofu is frying, coat each piece of tofu in the prepared batter. Carefully place the battered tofu back into the hot oil one by one, ensuring they do not stick together.
    • Fry the tofu until the batter turns a golden brown color and becomes crispy.
  5. Serve:

    • Remove the crispy tofu from the oil and drain on paper towels. Serve hot with a variety of dipping sauces or sambals of your choice.
