Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 20 minutes
Servings: 6

Description:

Looking for something a bit unusual but easy to whip up? This Vietnamese-inspired cabbage stir fry is just the ticket! You can use either Chinese cabbage or regular cabbage for this dish, and if you’re feeling adventurous, a dash of Tabasco or red pepper flakes can add a delightful kick.

Ingredients:

  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon fish sauce
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • ¾ head cabbage, thinly sliced
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • Black pepper, to taste

Instructions:

Step Description
1 In a small bowl, beat the egg together with the fish sauce until well combined. Set aside for later.
2 Heat a wok or large skillet over high heat, then add a bit of oil and the minced garlic. Stir-fry until the garlic becomes fragrant and slightly browned.
3 Once the garlic is browned, remove and discard it from the wok.
4 Add the sliced cabbage to the wok and stir-fry for about 2 minutes, allowing it to wilt slightly.
5 Pour in 2 tablespoons of water, cover the wok, and let the cabbage cook over medium heat for 3 minutes, or until it’s tender yet still slightly crisp.
6 Increase the heat to high and create a well in the center of the cabbage.
7 Pour the beaten egg mixture into the well you’ve created.
8 Stir-fry everything together for another 2 minutes, allowing the egg to cook and coat the cabbage.
9 Season the dish with freshly ground black pepper, to taste.
10 Serve your Vietnamese cabbage stir fry hot as a delicious and unique side dish or light meal. Enjoy!

Recipe Notes:

  • This recipe works equally well with Chinese cabbage or regular cabbage, so feel free to use whichever you have on hand.
  • For an extra kick of heat, consider adding a dash of Tabasco sauce or red pepper flakes to the dish while stir-frying.
  • Be sure not to overcook the cabbage; it should be tender yet still retain some crunch for the best texture.
  • Serve this Vietnamese cabbage stir fry as a tasty side dish alongside your favorite main course, or enjoy it on its own as a light and flavorful meal.
