Makes 3 dozen cookies

Ingredients:

  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/3 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar (for Natif topping)
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1/3 cup walnuts

Instructions:

  1. In a mixer bowl, beat cooking oil into butter until blended, then beat in sugar until creamy and smooth.
  2. Add orange juice, baking powder, and baking soda to the mixture, and mix well until fully incorporated.
  3. Gradually add flour to the mixture, a little at a time, until a soft dough forms.
  4. Shape the dough into 2-inch ovals and place them on an ungreased baking sheet, leaving some space between each cookie.
  5. Preheat the oven to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC) and bake the cookies for 20 to 25 minutes, or until they turn golden brown.
  6. Once baked, transfer the cookies to a wire rack and allow them to cool completely.

Natif Topping:

  1. In a saucepan, combine 3/4 cup sugar, honey, and 1/2 cup water, then bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat.
  2. Allow the mixture to boil gently, uncovered, for about 5 minutes, until it thickens slightly.
  3. Once the cookies have cooled, dip each one into the warm syrup mixture, coating them evenly.
  4. Immediately sprinkle the cookies with chopped walnuts while the syrup is still warm.
  5. Place the coated cookies on a wire rack to dry completely.

Enjoy the delightful combination of flavors and textures in these Saint Barbara cookies, perfect for any occasion or as a sweet indulgence any time of the day!
