Molasses Apple Pie Recipe 🥧

5-7 tbsp Water (for pastry)

Instructions:

  1. In a saucepan, combine the molasses, water, lemon juice, and salt. Bring to a boil over medium heat.

  2. Add the sliced apples to the syrup and simmer until the apples are tender. Remove the apples from the syrup and set aside.

  3. Melt the butter in a saucepan, then blend in the flour. Pour this mixture into the hot syrup, stirring constantly until the syrup is smooth and thick.

  4. Fold the cooked apples into the syrup mixture until well combined.

  5. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).

  6. Prepare the pastry for a 9-inch pie by mixing shortening, salt, and flour until crumbly. Add 5 tablespoons of water and mix well, adding more water if necessary to form a dough.

  7. Divide the pastry dough into two parts. Roll out one half and line a 9-inch pie pan with it, leaving about 1 inch of dough hanging over the edge.

  8. Fold the extra pastry over toward the middle and flute the edges with your fingers to create a built-up rim.

  9. Roll out the remaining pastry and cut it into narrow strips for a lattice top.
