Preparation Time: 20 minutes
Cooking Time: 55 minutes
Total Time: 1 hour and 15 minutes
Yield: 1 9-inch pie

Ingredients:

  • 7 1/2 pears, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup margarine
  • 3 tablespoons light corn syrup
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour, divided
  • 3/4 cup sugar, divided
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup chopped pecans

Instructions:

  1. Begin by preheating your oven to 450°F (230°C).
  2. Fit a pie crust into a 9-inch pie plate according to the package directions, then gently fold the edges under and crimp them for a decorative touch.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced pears, butter, margarine, light corn syrup, and lemon juice. Gently toss the ingredients together until the pears are evenly coated.
  4. In another bowl, mix together 1/4 cup of flour, 1/4 cup of sugar, cornstarch, ground cinnamon, ground allspice, and salt until well blended.
  5. Drain the pear slices, reserving the liquid for later use.
  6. Arrange one-third of the pear slices in the prepared pie crust, then sprinkle one-third of the flour mixture over the pears.
  7. Repeat this layering process twice more, using up all the pear slices and flour mixture.
  8. Drizzle the reserved pear liquid over the assembled pie.
  9. In a separate bowl, combine the remaining 1/2 cup of flour and 1/2 cup of sugar. Using a pastry blender or your fingers, cut in the remaining 1/4 cup of butter until the mixture becomes crumbly.
  10. Stir in the chopped pecans, then sprinkle this streusel topping evenly over the pie.
  11. Place the pie in the preheated oven and bake for 10 minutes at 450°F (230°C).
  12. After 10 minutes, reduce the oven temperature to 350°F (175°C) and continue baking for an additional 45 minutes, or until the pie is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
  13. Once baked, remove the pie from the oven and allow it to cool on a wire rack.
  14. Once cooled, slice and serve your Pear Streusel Pie, savoring each delightful bite!
