Spinach Pies Recipe

Ingredients:

All-purpose flour 2 cups
Salt 1 tsp
Warm water 1/4 – 1/2 cup
Fresh yeast 1 packet
Butter 100g
Ghee 1/2 cup
Fresh spinach 1 bunch
Onion 1
Cumin powder 1/2 tsp
Green chilies 3
Olive oil 2 tbsp
Lemon juice 1/4 cup
Salt to taste

Instructions:

  1. Prepare Dough:

    • Sift the all-purpose flour and salt into a large mixing bowl.
    • In a separate bowl, sprinkle the yeast over 1/4 cup of warm water and stir until dissolved.
    • Add the dissolved yeast to the flour mixture.
    • Add butter and knead gently until the dough comes away from the sides of the bowl and is smooth and elastic.
    • Place the dough in an oiled bowl, cover, and let it rest for 45 minutes.
  2. Prepare Spinach Filling:

    • Sprinkle chopped spinach leaves with a little salt.
    • Squeeze out all the liquid from the spinach leaves using your hands.
    • In a mixing bowl, combine the squeezed spinach with finely chopped onion, cumin powder, chopped green chilies, salt to taste, and lemon juice.
  3. Assembly:

    • Preheat your oven to 200°C (392°F).
    • Divide the dough into 10-15 equal-sized balls.
    • Roll each ball into a thin circle.
    • Place about 1 tablespoon of the prepared spinach mixture in the center of each dough circle.
    • Moisten the edges of the dough circle with water.
    • Lift the dough at three points along the circumference of the circle, equally spaced apart, and pull up to join in the center, forming a pyramid shape.
    • Seal the edges of the dough by pinching them together.
  4. Bake:

    • Grease a baking tray and place the assembled spinach pies on it.
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the pies are golden brown.
  5. Serve:

    • Once baked, remove the spinach pies from the oven and let them cool slightly.
    • Serve warm for breakfast or as a snack in the evening.
