Instructions:

1. Prepare the Beans:

  1. Rinse the garbanzo beans and pick out any debris.
  2. Place the beans in a large pot and cover them with water, ensuring they are submerged by at least 2 inches. If using hard water, add a pinch of baking soda.
  3. Bring the water to a boil for 2 minutes, then turn off the stove and allow the beans to cool to room temperature, approximately 2 hours.
  4. Drain and rinse the beans.

2. Cook the Beans:

  1. Rinse out the pot and return the beans to it.
  2. Cover the beans with water again, adding garlic cloves and bay leaves.
  3. Bring the water to a boil, then reduce the heat to simmer.
  4. Cook the beans until they are tender, which usually takes about 45 minutes to 1 hour.
  5. Drain the cooked beans and let them cool.

3. Prepare the Tahini:

  1. In a food processor, combine the roasted sesame seeds and sesame oil.
  2. Grind the mixture until it forms a paste. If it appears dry, add some olive oil gradually until desired consistency is achieved.

4. Make the Hummus:

  1. Add garlic cloves to the food processor with the tahini and pulse until finely chopped.
  2. Add the cooked beans to the processor.
  3. Turn on the processor and drizzle in the olive oil gradually.
  4. Allow the processor to run until the hummus reaches the desired consistency.
  5. Season with salt and pepper to taste, pulsing until well mixed.

5. Optional Addition:

  • For a creamier texture with less fat, consider replacing some of the olive oil with reduced-fat sour cream.

Serving Suggestions:

  • Serve the homemade hummus spread with pita bread, fresh vegetables, or as a dip for crackers.
  • Garnish with a drizzle of olive oil and a sprinkle of paprika for an extra flavor boost.

Storage:

  • Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.
  • Hummus can also be frozen for longer storage. Allow it to thaw in the refrigerator before serving.

Enjoy your homemade hummus spread! ๐Ÿฅ™๐ŸŒŸ
