Sweet and Spicy Grilled Nile Tilapia Recipe

If you’re looking to spice up your culinary repertoire with an aromatic, flavorful dish, this Sweet and Spicy Grilled Nile Tilapia is a must-try. Combining the subtle sweetness of tilapia with a vibrant mix of spices and herbs, this dish is perfect for a weekend meal or a special gathering.

Ingredients:

  • 500 grams Nile Tilapia
  • 1 ripe tomato
  • 1 large bell pepper
  • 5 small chili peppers (bird’s eye chilies)
  • Salt, to taste
  • 1 red onion
  • Banana leaves (enough to wrap the fish)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Fish:

    • Start by cleaning the Nile tilapia thoroughly. Pat it dry with paper towels and set aside.
  2. Prepare the Marinade:

    • Slice the red onion, bell pepper, and chili peppers into thin strips.
    • In a bowl, combine the sliced red onion, bell pepper, chili peppers, and a pinch of salt. Mix well to ensure the flavors meld together.
  3. Marinate the Fish:

    • Gently rub the marinade mixture all over the tilapia, making sure it gets into the cavity of the fish as well. Allow the fish to marinate for about 10 minutes to let the flavors infuse.
  4. Wrap the Fish:

    • While the fish is marinating, prepare the banana leaves. If using fresh banana leaves, briefly heat them over an open flame or in a dry pan to make them more pliable.
    • Place a large piece of banana leaf on a flat surface. Position the marinated tilapia in the center of the leaf.
    • Fold the leaf over the fish to wrap it securely. You can use additional pieces of banana leaf to ensure the fish is completely covered.
  5. Grill the Fish:

    • Preheat your grill to medium heat.
    • Place the wrapped tilapia on the grill and cook for approximately 30 minutes. The banana leaves will impart a subtle, smoky flavor to the fish, while keeping it moist and tender.
  6. Serve:

    • Carefully unwrap the fish and transfer it to a serving plate. The tilapia should be aromatic and well-cooked, with the flavors of the spices and herbs beautifully infused throughout.

This dish pairs wonderfully with steamed rice or a fresh vegetable salad. Enjoy the delightful taste of Sweet and Spicy Grilled Nile Tilapia that will surely impress your family and friends!
