Drumstick Dal Soup Recipe

Drumstick is a nutritious vegetable often featured in South Indian sambar and is known for its health benefits, including its positive effects on diabetes. This flavorful vegetable can also be used to make dal or vegetable dishes. In this recipe, we’ve used drumstick to create a warming soup, perfect for a cozy winter evening.

Ingredients:

  • 2 drumsticks
  • 1 cup green moong dal
  • 1 cup water (or as required)
  • 1 onion
  • 1 tomato
  • 4 garlic cloves
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/4 tsp cumin powder
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 30 minutes

Instructions:

  1. Begin by chopping the onion and tomato into large pieces. Set them aside.
  2. Wash the green moong dal thoroughly.
  3. In a pressure cooker, add the dal, onion, tomato, garlic, turmeric powder, cumin powder, salt, black pepper powder, and 1 cup of water. Mix well.
  4. Close the cooker and cook until you hear 3 whistles.
  5. Meanwhile, heat water in a saucepan. Add the drumsticks and cook until soft. Once cooked, remove the drumsticks and set them aside.
  6. Extract the pulp from the drumsticks and keep it aside.
  7. In a blender, combine the cooked dal and drumstick pulp, and blend until smooth. Strain the puree to remove any remaining solids.
  8. Pour the strained mixture back into a saucepan and heat it gently. Add salt and black pepper powder to taste.
  9. Once heated, serve the soup hot.
