However, in this healthy version, we’ve replaced the usual cream and cashews with hung curd, offering a lighter but equally delightful texture and flavor. With the inclusion of fenugreek (methi), green peas, and a blend of aromatic spices, this dish is not only tasty but also nutrient-packed, making it the perfect addition to your daily meals. Instructions

  1. Prepare the Paste:
Begin by preparing the paste. In a mixer grinder, combine the chopped onion, green chillies, garlic cloves, ginger, almonds, and poppy seeds. Grind everything into a smooth paste and set it aside.

  2. Cook the Fenugreek:
Heat some oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the fenugreek (methi) and salt. Sauté for a few minutes until the fenugreek becomes soft and tender. Once done, remove it from the pan and set it aside.

  3. Prepare the Masala:
In the same pan, add a little more oil if needed. Now, add the prepared paste to the pan and sauté for 3-4 minutes until the raw smell disappears and the masala cooks through.

  4. Spice It Up:
Add the turmeric powder, garam masala powder, and black pepper powder to the cooked masala. Stir well to incorporate the spices. Then, add the pureed tomatoes and cook for another minute, allowing the flavors to meld together.

  5. Add the Hung Curd:
Lower the heat and add the hung curd to the pan. Mix it well with the cooked masala, and let it cook for 30 seconds to blend the flavors.

  6. Combine Methi and Peas:
Now, add the cooked fenugreek and steamed green peas to the pan. Stir everything together and let it cook on a low flame for 2-3 minutes, allowing the flavors to blend and the peas to heat through.

  7. Final Touches:
Once everything is well combined and cooked, turn off the heat. Your Healthy Methi Matar Malai is now ready to serve!
