Ingredients:
- Sweet corn – a few kernels
- Green peas (Matar) – a few
- 1 teaspoon Ghee
- 1/4 teaspoon Mustard seeds (Rai/ Kadugu)
- 1/4 teaspoon White Urad Dal (Split)
- 1/2 Onion – finely chopped
- Salt – to taste
- 1/4 cup Sooji (Semolina/ Rava) – roasted
- 1/2 cup Hot water
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 10 minutes
Instructions:
- Start by steaming the sweet corn and green peas. In a pressure cooker, add a handful of sweet corn kernels and peas along with 2 tablespoons of water. Pressure cook for 1 whistle, then turn off the heat. Let the pressure cooker cool under running water before opening the lid. Set the cooked peas and corn aside.
- In a pan, heat 1 teaspoon of ghee. Once the ghee melts, add the mustard seeds and urad dal. Let the mustard seeds crackle and the urad dal turn golden brown.
- Add the finely chopped onions and sauté until they become soft and translucent.
- Add the cooked sweet corn and peas, followed by salt. Stir well to combine.
- Pour in 1/2 cup of hot water and stir again. Using hot water speeds up the cooking process. If you’re using room temperature water, allow it to come to a boil before proceeding.
- Once the water begins to bubble, slowly add the roasted sooji (semolina), stirring continuously to avoid lumps.
- Stir until the upma thickens, then cover the pan and allow it to steam for a few minutes.
- Turn off the heat, and your Sweet Corn and Peas Upma is ready for your baby or toddler.
