Ingredients:

Ingredient Quantity
Whole Wheat Brown Bread 12 slices
Beetroots (peeled and finely chopped) 2 tablespoons
Green Bell Pepper (Capsicum, finely chopped) 2 tablespoons
Cabbage (Patta Gobi/ Muttaikose, finely chopped) 2 tablespoons
Spring Onion Greens (finely chopped) 1 tablespoon
Classic Mayonnaise (With Egg) 2 tablespoons
Black Pepper Powder As required
Red Chilli Flakes (crushed, to taste) As required
Butter (Salted, softened) 2 tablespoons
Nutella Spread 3 tablespoons
Jam (or any red-colored fruit jam or preserve) 2 teaspoons

Preparation Time:

10 minutes

Cooking Time:

20 minutes

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Beet Mayo Filling:
Start by making the beet mayo filling for the sandwiches. Finely chop the vegetables: beetroot, bell pepper, cabbage, and spring onion greens. Alternatively, you can use a food processor to speed up this step. Transfer the chopped vegetables to a mixing bowl.

  2. Mix the Filling:
Add 2 to 3 tablespoons of mayonnaise to the chopped vegetables, then sprinkle in black pepper powder and red chili flakes to your desired level of spice. Mix everything together until well combined. Do a taste test and adjust the spices or salt as needed.

  3. Shape the Bread:
Use heart-shaped cutters to cut the bread slices into heart shapes. For the larger sandwiches (beet-mayo filling), use the bigger heart-shaped cutter, and for the smaller ones (Nutella and jam), use the smaller cutter. Set aside any leftover bread, which can be used to make breadcrumbs.

  4. Assemble the Beet-Mayo Sandwiches:
Butter all 12 of the larger heart-shaped bread slices on one side. On 6 of these slices, gently spread a small teaspoon of the beet-mayo filling using a palette knife, ensuring it’s spread evenly. Top each of these with the remaining 6 slices of bread, butter side down, pressing lightly to secure the sandwich. Your beet-mayo tea sandwiches are now ready.

  5. Prepare the Nutella and Jam Sandwiches:
For the Nutella-filled sandwiches, spread Nutella on 3 of the smaller heart-shaped bread slices. Top each with another slice of bread, pressing gently to form a sandwich. Repeat the same process with the jam, spreading it on the remaining 3 smaller bread slices and topping them with the other slice.

  6. Serving:
Serve these delightful Heart-Shaped Tea Sandwiches as a snack or a light meal, accompanied by Masala Tea or a refreshing cup of Espresso Coffee.
