Indonesian Beef Meatball Soup (Sup Bakso Sapi) 💓

Experience the delightful flavors of Indonesian cuisine with this hearty and aromatic Beef Meatball Soup, known locally as Sup Bakso Sapi. Perfect for a comforting meal, this recipe combines savory beef meatballs with a medley of vegetables in a flavorful broth.

Ingredients:

  • 250 grams beef meatballs (Bakso Sapi)
  • 1 medium potato (approximately 100 grams), peeled and diced
  • 1 medium carrot (approximately 70 grams), sliced
  • 200 grams cabbage, chopped
  • 2 stalks celery, sliced
  • 2 stalks green onions, sliced
  • Fried shallots (for garnish)
  • 2 tablespoons cooking oil
  • Water (enough to cover the ingredients)
  • Seasoning:
    • 4 cloves garlic
    • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 1 packet chicken bouillon (Royco Ayam)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Aromatics:

    • Begin by finely crushing the garlic cloves with salt. Mix this garlic-salt mixture with ground black pepper to create a fragrant seasoning blend.
  2. Sauté the Seasoning:

    • Heat the cooking oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the garlic seasoning blend to the hot oil and sauté until the garlic is fragrant and lightly golden.
  3. Cook the Vegetables and Meatballs:

    • Add the diced potato, sliced carrot, beef meatballs, and chopped cabbage to the pot. Stir well to combine and allow the vegetables to cook until they are halfway tender.
  4. Simmer the Soup:

    • Pour in approximately 300 ml of water, or enough to cover the ingredients. Bring the mixture to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat and let it simmer until the vegetables are fully cooked and tender.
  5. Season the Soup:

    • Stir in the chicken bouillon (Royco Ayam) and mix thoroughly. Add the sliced green onions and celery. Let the soup cook for a few more minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
  6. Finish and Serve:

    • Taste the soup and adjust the seasoning if needed. Remove from heat. Garnish with fried shallots before serving.

Enjoy your warm and flavorful Indonesian Beef Meatball Soup, perfect for a comforting meal any time of the year! 👍
