Ingredients:

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups confectioners’ sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line cookie sheets with parchment paper or use ungreased sheets.

  2. Cream together the softened butter and confectioners’ sugar in a large mixing bowl until creamy and smooth.

  3. Add the egg and vanilla extract to the butter mixture, beating well until fully combined.

  4. In a separate bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and cream of tartar.

  5. Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, stirring until a smooth dough forms. The dough should be firm enough to hold its shape in a cookie press.

  6. Fill a cookie press fitted with the cheese straw disk with the dough.

  7. Press the dough out onto the prepared cookie sheets in desired shapes, leaving about 1 inch of space between cookies.

  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 10 minutes, or until the edges of the cookies are lightly golden brown.

  9. Remove from the oven and let the cookies cool on the sheets for 1-2 minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.

  10. Enjoy these delightful tea cakes with a cup of your favorite beverage or share them with loved ones at your next gathering!

These tea cakes are a cherished recipe passed down from Mamma Pauline herself, perfect for any occasion and sure to delight everyone who tastes them. Whip up a batch today and create some sweet memories! 🍪
