Beef Teriyaki Ala Hokben Recipe

Ingredients:

For the Beef Teriyaki:

  • 250 grams beef, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, grated
  • 1 piece ginger, grated
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, smashed
  • 1 sachet teriyaki sauce (e.g., Saori brand)
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 3 tablespoons sweet soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • Salt, to taste
  • Seasoning, to taste
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch, dissolved in a little water
  • 3 tablespoons margarine
  • 200 ml water

For the Salad:

  • Sesame seeds (for garnish)
  • Carrots, julienned
  • Cabbage, julienned
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • Cold water
  • Mayonnaise (e.g., Maestro brand)

Steps:

  1. Prepare the Beef: Thinly slice the beef and place it in a bowl. Add the grated garlic, grated ginger, teriyaki sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, Worcestershire sauce (if using), sweet soy sauce, ground black pepper, salt, and sugar. Mix well and let it marinate in the refrigerator for 30 minutes to allow the flavors to infuse.

  2. Cook the Beef: In a pan, heat the margarine over medium heat. Sauté half of the sliced onion and smashed garlic until fragrant. Add a pinch of salt.

  3. Add the Beef: Add the marinated beef to the pan and cook until it changes color. Stir in any remaining marinade ingredients (sugar, seasoning). Pour in the water and cook until the beef is tender and the flavors have melded together. If needed, add a bit more water to ensure the beef is well-cooked and tender. Once the beef is cooked through and the sauce has thickened slightly, add the cornstarch mixture to thicken the sauce. Stir in the remaining sliced onion and cook for a few more minutes.

  4. Prepare the Salad: For the salad, soak the julienned carrots and cabbage in a mixture of cold water, vinegar, salt, and sugar. Let it sit for a few minutes, then drain and refrigerate until ready to serve.

  5. Serve: Serve the beef teriyaki with the prepared salad, garnished with sesame seeds. Optionally, add some chili sauce and nuggets on the side.

Enjoy this savory Beef Teriyaki Ala Hokben with a refreshing salad and your choice of accompaniments for a complete and satisfying meal!
