Ingredients:
- 3/4 cup warm water
- 1 packet (1/4 oz) dry yeast
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 1/2 cups buttermilk
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 3 tablespoons honey
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 6 to 6 1/2 cups white bread flour
- 1 egg
Instructions:
-
Lightly spray two small loaf pans or one large loaf pan with non-stick cooking spray or coat with melted butter. Place them on a baking sheet and set aside.
-
In the bowl of a stand mixer, whisk together the warm water, dry yeast, and sugar by hand. Allow it to stand for 2 minutes until the yeast activates.
-
Stir in the buttermilk, unsalted butter, honey, salt, and half of the flour using a wooden spoon.
-
Fit the stand mixer with a dough hook attachment. Knead the dough, gradually adding more flour as needed, until a soft yet firm dough forms, approximately 8 to 10 minutes.
-
Lightly cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let the dough rise for 45 to 90 minutes, or until it has doubled in size.
-
Gently deflate the dough and either divide it into two equal portions or keep it as one loaf.
-
Shape the dough into oblongs and place them into the prepared loaf pans.
-
Insert the loaf pans into a large plastic bag and allow the dough to rise again until doubled in size, approximately 30 to 45 minutes.
-
Glaze the risen dough with a beaten egg. Alternatively, you can brush the loaf with melted butter for added richness.
-
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
-
Place the bread in the preheated oven and bake for about 45 minutes, or until the loaves are well browned and sound hollow when tapped on the bottom.
-
Once baked, carefully turn the loaves out onto a cooling rack and allow them to cool completely before slicing.
This Buttermilk & Honey Bread is best enjoyed fresh, but it also freezes well, allowing you to savor its homemade goodness anytime you crave a slice. Whether served warm with a pat of butter or used as the foundation for your favorite sandwich, this bread is sure to become a staple in your kitchen.
