Ingredients:
Ingredient | Quantity |
---|---|
Figs | 500g |
Red Wine | 500g |
Port Wine | 35g |
Honey | 25g |
Cinnamon Stick | 1 |
Cloves | 3 |
Brown Sugar | 120g |
Instructions:
-
Prepare the Figs
Begin by gently cleaning the figs using a damp cloth to remove any impurities. Cut off the peduncles from each fruit. Carefully slice each fig without cutting it into quarters; instead, make a shallow incision along the top of each one. -
Prepare the Syrup
In a large pan, pour in the red wine and port. Add the honey, cinnamon stick, cloves, and brown sugar. Stir everything together and bring to a boil over high heat. -
Cook the Figs
Once the wine mixture reaches a boil, lower the heat and gently add the figs into the syrup. Allow the figs to simmer for 5 minutes on low heat. Handle the figs carefully as they cook, to avoid breaking them. -
Cool the Figs
Once the figs have cooked, remove them carefully and set them aside to cool completely. After they have cooled, cut each fig into 4 pieces. -
Make the Syrup Reduction
Allow the wine syrup to continue cooking for an additional 20 minutes. The mixture should reduce and become thick and syrupy. Once it reaches this consistency, remove the cinnamon stick and strain the syrup into a clean bowl. -
Serve
Arrange the fig pieces in small serving bowls or cups. Pour the red wine syrup over the figs. Cover the bowls with plastic wrap and place them in the refrigerator for about 2 hours to chill and allow the flavors to meld. -
Enjoy
After the chilling time, remove the figs from the fridge, discard the plastic wrap, and serve. These sweet, aromatic figs make a delightful dessert that will impress your guests!
Tip: You can garnish with a touch of whipped cream or a few extra cinnamon sticks for added visual appeal. Enjoy this delightful treat chilled or at room temperature!
