Sesame Hummus: A Delightful Twist on a Classic
If you’re a fan of sesame with a touch of garlic and honey, this Sesame Hummus is a must-try. This recipe is my personal creation, born out of a desire for a hummus that truly highlights the nutty essence of sesame seeds. The secret to achieving this rich, distinctive flavor is a dash of honey, which perfectly complements the other ingredients. A crucial tip is to use Extra Light Tasting Olive Oil instead of Extra Virgin Olive Oil, as the latter can overpower the delicate sesame flavor. For added health benefits, I’ve included flax seeds, known for their high Omega 3 and fiber content. To grind the sesame and flax seeds efficiently, I recommend using a small Krups electric coffee mill—it delivers an excellent texture.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup garbanzo beans (canned or cooked)
- 6 tablespoons sesame seeds (ground)
- 2 tablespoons sesame seeds (whole)
- 3 tablespoons flax seeds (ground)
- 3 tablespoons Extra Light Tasting Olive Oil
- 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1 garlic clove (minced)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
- 5 tablespoons water (or as needed)
Instructions:
-
Prepare Ingredients:
- Measure out all your ingredients to ensure you have everything ready.
-
Grind Seeds:
- Using a small Krups electric coffee mill, grind the sesame seeds and flax seeds until they reach a fine powder. This will ensure they blend smoothly into the hummus.
-
Blend Hummus:
- In a small food processor, combine the garbanzo beans, ground sesame seeds, whole sesame seeds, ground flax seeds, Extra Light Tasting Olive Oil, fresh lime juice, honey, minced garlic, salt, and nutmeg.
- Add water gradually while processing, blending until the mixture is smooth and creamy. Adjust the amount of water to achieve your desired consistency.
-
Taste and Adjust:
- Taste your hummus and adjust seasoning as needed. If you’d like a sweeter or saltier flavor, add more honey or salt accordingly.
-
Serve:
- Transfer the hummus to a serving bowl. For a finishing touch, drizzle a little Extra Light Tasting Olive Oil on top and sprinkle with additional sesame seeds if desired.
-
Store:
- Store any leftover hummus in an airtight container in the refrigerator. It will keep well for up to a week.
Enjoy this deliciously creamy and nutty Sesame Hummus as a dip with fresh vegetables, a spread for sandwiches, or as a flavorful addition to any meal. Whether you’re hosting a gathering or simply looking for a healthy snack, this hummus is sure to be a hit with its unique and satisfying flavor.
