Cooking Time 15 minutes
Total Time 25 minutes

Instructions

  1. Heat Oil: Begin by heating oil in a medium-sized pan over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, add the thinly sliced onions and sauté them until they turn soft and translucent, which should take around 3 to 4 minutes.

  2. Cook Tomatoes & Green Chilies: Add the finely chopped tomatoes and sliced green chilies to the pan. Continue cooking, stirring occasionally, until the tomatoes soften and blend with the onions to form a thick paste, about 5 minutes.

  3. Add Ginger Garlic Paste: Stir in the ginger garlic paste and cook for about 1 minute, allowing the flavors to meld together.

  4. Add Spices: Add turmeric powder and red chili powder to the mixture. Stir well to incorporate the spices with the onion-tomato base. Let it cook for another 2 minutes to develop the flavors.

  5. Add Masoor Dal: Once the spices are well combined, add the washed masoor dal to the pan. Stir for a minute, ensuring the dal is coated with the spices.

  6. Add Water and Simmer: Pour in 2 and a half cups of water and bring it to a boil. Once it starts boiling, reduce the heat to low and allow the dal to simmer. Cook until the dal becomes tender and soft, about 10 to 15 minutes.

  7. Season with Salt: Add salt according to taste and stir well. Allow the dal to cook for a few more minutes to let the salt dissolve and flavors combine.

  8. Garnish and Serve: Once the dal is ready, garnish it with freshly chopped coriander leaves. This not only adds a burst of color but also a refreshing herbal aroma.
