Instructions:

Step 1: Prepare the Baked Beans & Potato Mixture

  1. Begin by preparing your homemade baked beans. (You can use store-bought baked beans if you’re short on time.)
  2. Boil the potatoes in a pot until soft, peel, and dice them into small cubes.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the boiled potatoes, salt, cumin powder, chaat masala powder, a tablespoon of butter, and freshly chopped coriander leaves.
  4. Using a fork, mash the potatoes thoroughly, adjusting the seasoning as needed to suit your taste. Set this mashed potato mixture aside for later.

Step 2: Toast the Bread

  1. Butter each slice of whole wheat brown bread generously and cut the slices into halves.
  2. Preheat your oven to 200°C (392°F).
  3. Place the buttered bread slices on a baking tray and bake for about 10 minutes, or until the bread becomes golden brown and crisp on the edges.

Step 3: Prepare the Onion Mixture

  1. In a small bowl, combine finely chopped onions, a pinch of chaat masala powder, and a few tablespoons of chopped coriander leaves. Mix well and set this aside for garnishing.

Step 4: Assemble the Chaat

  1. Once the bread is toasted, take it out of the oven and place the mashed potato mixture evenly over the top of each slice.
  2. Spoon a generous amount of warm baked beans on top of the mashed potatoes, making sure the beans are spread across the bread.
  3. Next, sprinkle the onion mixture over the baked beans and potatoes, followed by a finishing touch of crisp sev on top for added crunch.
