🌰 Semur Daging Sapi Kentang: A Savory Indonesian Beef and Potato Stew 🌰

Ingredients:

  • 350 grams beef, washed and cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 3 potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks
  • 5 shallots
  • 3 garlic cloves
  • 3 candlenuts
  • White pepper, to taste
  • Nutmeg, to taste
  • 1/2 onion, thinly sliced
  • Soy sauce (for seasoning)
  • Sweet soy sauce (for seasoning)
  • Salt and sugar, to taste
  • Cooking oil, for frying

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Beef and Potatoes:

    • Start by boiling the beef over medium heat until tender. If you’re in a hurry, you can use a pressure cooker to speed up the process.
    • While the beef is cooking, heat some cooking oil in a pan and fry the potato chunks until golden brown. Remove from the oil and drain on paper towels.
  2. Make the Spice Paste:

    • In a blender or food processor, combine the shallots, garlic, and candlenuts. Blend until you get a smooth paste.
    • Heat a small amount of oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the spice paste and sauté until fragrant. Add the thinly sliced onion and continue to sauté until it becomes translucent.
    • Season the mixture with white pepper and nutmeg, then add soy sauce and sweet soy sauce to taste.
  3. Combine Ingredients:

    • Gently fold the fried potatoes into the spice mixture, ensuring they are well coated. Add a little beef broth to help incorporate the flavors.
    • Transfer this mixture into a pot containing the boiled beef and its broth. Stir gently to combine, adjusting the consistency with additional water if necessary.
  4. Simmer and Season:

    • Bring the stew to a simmer over medium heat. Allow it to cook until the flavors meld together and the stew thickens slightly.
    • Season with salt and sugar to taste. Adjust the seasoning according to your preference.
  5. Serve:

    • Once the stew has reached the desired taste and consistency, turn off the heat.
    • Serve hot and enjoy the rich, savory flavors of Semur Daging Sapi Kentang—an Indonesian classic that’s sure to delight!

Note: This dish is wonderfully hearty and makes for a comforting meal on a cool day. The blend of sweet soy sauce and spices gives it a unique depth of flavor that’s both savory and satisfying.

Enjoy your cooking experience with this traditional Indonesian dish! 😍😋👍
