Sapi Lada Hitam: A Savory Indonesian Black Pepper Beef Dish

Ingredients:

  • 250 grams of beef
  • 1/2 green bell pepper
  • 1/2 red bell pepper
  • 1 onion
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • Salt and sugar, to taste
  • Sweet soy sauce, to taste
  • 1 sachet of Saori black pepper seasoning

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Beef:
Begin by boiling the beef in a pot of water until it becomes tender. Once cooked, slice the beef thinly and pound it lightly to further tenderize the meat. After pounding, coat the beef slices with sweet soy sauce and set aside.

  2. Prepare the Vegetables:
While the beef is cooking, thinly slice the onion and cut the bell peppers into triangular pieces. If you prefer a spicier dish, you can substitute the bell peppers with red chilies. Crush the garlic cloves and finely chop them.

  3. Sauté the Aromatics:
Heat a sufficient amount of oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the chopped garlic and sauté until fragrant. Next, add the sliced onion and bell peppers (or red chilies) to the pan. Stir-fry the vegetables until they start to soften.

  4. Combine the Ingredients:
Add the prepared beef to the pan with the vegetables. Pour in a little water to help blend the flavors. Sprinkle in the Saori black pepper seasoning. Season with salt and sugar to taste, adjusting the seasoning as needed.

  5. Thicken the Sauce (Optional):
If you prefer a thicker sauce, dissolve 1 teaspoon of cornstarch in a small amount of water and stir it into the pan. Cook for a few more minutes until the sauce reaches your desired consistency.

  6. Final Adjustments:
Taste the dish and make any final seasoning adjustments. Once everything is well combined and the beef is heated through, remove the pan from the heat.

  7. Serve:
Serve the Sapi Lada Hitam hot, ideally with steamed rice or your favorite side dishes.

Enjoy this flavorful Indonesian black pepper beef dish that balances savory and slightly sweet notes with a hint of heat!
