Sautéed Beef with Long Beans

Ingredients:

  • 400 grams of beef
  • 1/2 bunch of long beans
  • 3 cloves of garlic
  • 4 shallots
  • 1 piece of ginger (about the size of your thumb)
  • 1 piece of aromatic ginger (kencur) (about the size of your thumb)
  • Salt to taste
  • Granulated sugar to taste
  • Soy sauce to taste

Steps:

  1. Prepare the Ingredients:

    • Clean and wash the beef thoroughly. Cut it into bite-sized pieces.
    • Trim the long beans and cut them into approximately 5 cm (2 inches) pieces.
    • Peel and crush the garlic and shallots.
    • Slice the ginger and kencur into thin pieces.
  2. Blend the Spices:

    • Using a mortar and pestle or a food processor, blend the garlic and shallots into a fine paste. Set aside the ginger and kencur as they will be used later.
  3. Cooking:

    • Heat a little oil in a wok or large frying pan over medium heat.
    • Add the blended garlic and shallots paste to the hot oil and sauté until fragrant.
    • Add the beef pieces to the wok and cook until the beef starts to brown.
    • While the beef is cooking, add the sliced ginger and kencur, pressing them slightly to release their flavors.
    • Add the long beans to the wok and stir-fry for a few minutes until they start to soften.
  4. Seasoning:

    • Season the dish with salt, sugar, and soy sauce to taste. Continue to stir-fry until the beef is fully cooked and the beans are tender but still crisp.
  5. Serve:

    • Transfer the sautéed beef and long beans to a serving dish. Enjoy this flavorful and aromatic dish with steamed rice for a complete meal.

This delightful Indonesian dish combines tender beef with crunchy long beans, infused with the rich flavors of garlic, shallots, ginger, and kencur. Perfect for a quick and satisfying dinner, it showcases the harmonious blend of spices and ingredients typical of Southeast Asian cuisine. Enjoy the vibrant and comforting taste of Sautéed Beef with Long Beans!
