Grilled Gurame Fish Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 kg Gurame fish
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • Sweet and spicy soy sauce (optional)
  • Spice Paste:
    • 7 red chilies
    • 7 shallots
    • 3 cloves garlic
    • 3 candlenuts
    • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
    • A small piece of ginger
    • A small piece of turmeric
    • 3 teaspoons sugar
    • 3 teaspoons salt

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Fish: Clean the Gurame fish thoroughly and rub it with lime juice. Allow it to marinate for 10 minutes to infuse the flavors.

  2. Prepare the Spice Paste: In a food processor or mortar and pestle, blend together the red chilies, shallots, garlic, candlenuts, ginger, and turmeric until smooth. Add the turmeric powder, sugar, and salt, and mix well.

  3. Cook the Spice Paste: Heat a Happy Call pan or a similar non-stick pan over medium heat. Add the spice paste and sauté until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.

  4. Grill the Fish: Place the marinated fish into the pan with the cooked spice paste. Ensure the fish is well-coated with the spice mixture. Cover the pan with a lid and grill over low heat.

  5. Add Sweet and Spicy Soy Sauce (Optional): When the fish is almost cooked, you can brush it with sweet and spicy soy sauce if you like extra flavor. Grill for a few more minutes until the sauce is well-adhered to the fish and it is fully cooked.

  6. Serve: Once done, remove the fish from the pan. Serve hot and enjoy your grilled Gurame fish with your favorite side dishes.

This delightful Indonesian dish is perfect for a flavorful meal that showcases the aromatic and spicy profile of traditional spices.
