Ingredients:

  • 1 kg beef, thinly sliced
  • 10 shallots
  • 6 cloves of garlic
  • A thumb-sized piece of ginger
  • 1/2 coconut, grated and toasted, then ground
  • 1 liter of clean water
  • Sweet soy sauce, salt, and sugar to taste
  • 2 kaffir lime leaves
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 teaspoon ground pepper

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Beef:

    • Begin by slicing the beef into thin strips. Ensure the beef is washed thoroughly to remove any impurities.
  2. Prepare the Aromatics:

    • Blend the shallots, garlic, and ginger until they form a smooth paste. This aromatic blend is essential for the depth of flavor in this dish.
  3. SautΓ© the Aromatics:

    • In a large pan, heat a small amount of oil over medium heat. Add the blended aromatics and sautΓ© until they become fragrant and golden brown.
  4. Cook the Beef:

    • Add the thinly sliced beef to the pan. Stir well to ensure the beef is evenly coated with the aromatic mixture. Cook until the beef begins to brown.
  5. Add Water:

    • Pour in the liter of clean water. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer. Cook until the liquid has reduced and thickened, allowing the flavors to meld beautifully.
  6. Incorporate the Toasted Coconut:

    • Stir in the ground, toasted coconut. This adds a rich, nutty flavor and enhances the texture of the dish.
  7. Season the Dish:

    • Add sweet soy sauce, salt, and sugar to taste. Adjust the seasoning until you achieve the perfect balance of sweet and savory flavors.
  8. Final Touches:

    • Add the kaffir lime leaves, bay leaves, and ground pepper. These ingredients will infuse the dish with a fragrant, citrusy aroma and a slight peppery kick.
  9. Simmer to Perfection:

    • Continue to simmer the dish until the beef is tender and the sauce has reached a thick, luscious consistency.
  10. Serve:

    • Your Malbi Daging Sapi is now ready to be served. This dish pairs wonderfully with steamed rice and a side of fresh vegetables.

Enjoy the rich, savory flavors of this traditional Indonesian dish, perfect for a family dinner or special occasion!
