Semur Daging Sapi (Indonesian Beef Stew)
Ingredients
- 250 grams beef, cut into cubes
- 2 potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks
- Spice Paste:
- 3 candlenuts
- 4 shallots
- 3 cloves garlic
- 1 teaspoon ground white pepper
- Water (as needed)
- Sweet soy sauce (kecap manis), to taste
- Salt, to taste
- Sugar, to taste
Preparation Steps
- Prepare the Spice Paste: Blend the candlenuts, shallots, garlic, and white pepper into a smooth paste.
- Sauté the Paste: In a large pan, heat a bit of oil and sauté the spice paste until it becomes fragrant.
- Cook the Beef: Add the beef cubes to the pan, stirring until they change color and are well coated with the spices.
- Simmer: Pour in enough water to cover the beef, then add the sweet soy sauce, salt, and sugar. Stir well and bring to a boil.
- Add Potatoes: Once the stew is boiling, add the potato chunks. Taste and adjust the seasoning as necessary.
- Cook Until Tender: Reduce the heat to a simmer and cook until the beef and potatoes are tender and the liquid has reduced to a thick, flavorful sauce.
- Serve: Transfer the stew to a serving dish and enjoy it warm, ideally with steamed rice.
