Ayam Kecap Manis Cabai (Sweet Soy Sauce Chicken with Chili)

Ingredients

  • 500 grams of chicken
  • 3 cloves of garlic, crushed and minced
  • 1 large red chili, diagonally sliced
  • 1/2 teaspoon of ground pepper
  • 3-4 tablespoons of sweet soy sauce (kecap manis)
  • 200 ml of water
  • Salt, to taste
  • 3 tablespoons of vegetable oil
  • Scallions, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Sauté Aromatics: In a large pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic, sliced red chili, and ground pepper. Sauté until the garlic becomes slightly golden and the chili softens.

  2. Cook Chicken: Add the chicken pieces to the pan. Stir well until the chicken changes color, ensuring that each piece is well-coated with the aromatic mixture.

  3. Add Flavorings: Pour in the sweet soy sauce and water. Season with salt to taste. Stir the mixture to combine all the ingredients thoroughly.

  4. Simmer: Cover the pan and let the chicken simmer over low heat until the water has reduced and the flavors have infused into the chicken. This should take about 15-20 minutes. Ensure that the sauce thickens and coats the chicken well.

  5. Serve: Once cooked, transfer the chicken to a serving dish. Garnish with chopped scallions for an added burst of flavor and color. Serve hot with steamed rice.

Enjoy your Ayam Kecap Manis Cabai, a delightful Indonesian dish that’s rich in flavor and perfect for any occasion!
