Tahu Telor (Indonesian Tofu and Egg Delight)

Ingredients:

  • 2 blocks of firm tofu (cut into small cubes or crumbled with a fork)
  • 3-4 large eggs (depending on the size of the tofu)
  • 150 grams of peanuts (roasted)
  • 15 small Thai chilies (adjust the heat level to your preference)
  • 1 clove of garlic (lightly fried)
  • Fresh celery leaves (optional, pounded with spices)
  • Sweet soy sauce (to taste)
  • Cooking oil (for frying)
  • Salt and seasoning (to taste)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Tofu Mixture:

    • In a mixing bowl, combine the cubed or crumbled tofu with the eggs. Mix well and season with a pinch of salt and your choice of seasoning.
  2. Fry the Tofu Mixture:

    • Heat a generous amount of oil in a pan over medium heat. Scoop portions of the tofu and egg mixture into the hot oil, using about one tablespoon per piece. Fry until golden brown and crispy. If the mixture starts to break apart, you can add more egg to help bind it together.
  3. Prepare the Peanut Sauce:

    • In a mortar and pestle or food processor, combine the roasted peanuts, Thai chilies, celery leaves (if using), and fried garlic. Add a pinch of salt and grind or blend until smooth.
    • Gradually add a little water to the mixture until you achieve a desired consistency. Adjust the sweetness by adding sweet soy sauce to taste.
  4. Assemble and Serve:

    • Arrange the fried tofu and egg pieces on a serving plate. Pour the peanut sauce over the tofu. Garnish with chopped fresh celery leaves or scallions if desired.
  5. Enjoy:

    • Your Tahu Telor is now ready to be enjoyed! Serve warm and savor the rich, savory flavors of this Indonesian classic.
