Tahu Fantasi: A Delightful Indonesian Steamed Tofu and Egg Delight
Ingredients:
- 500 grams firm tofu (tahu putih)
- 30 quail eggs, hard-boiled
- 200 grams finely chopped green onions (daun bawang)
- 200 grams coarsely grated carrots (wortel)
- Salt, to taste
- Chicken bouillon powder, to taste
- 2 large eggs, beaten
Instructions:
-
Prepare the Tofu Mixture: Begin by mashing the firm tofu in a bowl until it reaches a smooth consistency. Combine the tofu with the finely chopped green onions, coarsely grated carrots, beaten eggs, salt, and chicken bouillon powder. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly distributed.
-
Shape and Fill the Molds: Spoon the tofu mixture into muffin tins or small molds, pressing it down to form a solid base. Gently press one hard-boiled quail egg into the center of each mold. Cover the quail egg with more of the tofu mixture, smoothing the top to ensure the egg is fully enclosed. Continue this process until all the tofu mixture is used up.
-
Steam the Tofu: Place the filled molds into a steamer. Steam over medium heat for approximately 25 minutes, or until the tofu mixture is fully cooked and set. Once done, remove the molds from the steamer and allow them to cool to room temperature.
-
Fry the Tofu Fantasi: Once the tofu has cooled, carefully remove it from the molds. Dip each piece into the beaten egg, ensuring it is fully coated. Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Fry the tofu pieces until they are golden brown and crispy on all sides.
-
Serve: Remove the fried tofu from the pan and drain on paper towels. Serve warm with fresh bird’s eye chilies (cabe rawit) on the side for an extra kick.
Enjoy your delicious and crispy Tahu Fantasi!
