Yield: 3/4 pound

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

Optional Flavorings:

  • You can customize your fudge with one of the following optional flavorings:
    • Peppermint extract
    • Almond extract
    • Coconut extract

Instructions:

  1. Combine sugar and milk in a heavy saucepan.

    • Place the saucepan over medium heat and stir continuously until the sugar is completely dissolved.
  2. Bring the mixture to a rolling boil, and cook until it reaches the soft ball stage.

    • To test if it’s reached the soft ball stage, drop a small amount of the mixture into a glass of cold water. If it forms a soft ball that you can flatten between your fingers, it’s ready.
  3. Remove the saucepan from the heat, and add the butter and cocoa. Whisk vigorously to combine.

    • Adding the butter and cocoa off the heat prevents burning and ensures a smooth texture.
  4. Add vanilla extract and your chosen optional flavoring.

    • Stir well to incorporate the flavors evenly throughout the mixture.
  5. Add flour and stir until thoroughly mixed.

    • Incorporate the flour gradually to avoid clumps and ensure a smooth consistency.
  6. Immediately pour the mixture onto a buttered plate or baking dish.

    • Use a spatula to spread it evenly and smooth the surface.
  7. Allow the fudge to cool and set completely before cutting into squares.

    • You can speed up the setting process by adding peanut butter, as noted in the recipe.
  8. Serve and enjoy!

    • Share this amazing fudge with friends and family, or keep it all to yourself for a delicious indulgence.

Note: This fudge can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two weeks, although it’s unlikely to last that long once everyone tastes it!
