Triple Treats (Copycat Oh Henry Bars) Recipe

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons of shortening
  • 2 cups of semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 30 caramels, unwrapped
  • 3 tablespoons of water
  • 2 tablespoons of butter
  • 1 cup of salted peanuts (chopped if preferred)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Chocolate Base:

    • In a double boiler, combine 2 cups of semi-sweet chocolate chips and 2 tablespoons of shortening.
    • Heat over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the chocolate and shortening are fully melted and smooth.
    • Once melted, carefully remove the mixture from the heat.
  2. Set the First Layer:

    • Pour half of the melted chocolate mixture into an 8-inch square pan lined with foil, ensuring the foil hangs over the edges for easy removal later.
    • Spread the chocolate evenly across the bottom of the pan.
    • Place the pan in the refrigerator and allow it to chill until the chocolate layer is firm, about 20 minutes.
  3. Make the Caramel Filling:

    • In a medium saucepan, combine 30 unwrapped caramels, 3 tablespoons of water, and 2 tablespoons of butter.
    • Heat the mixture over low heat, stirring frequently, until the caramels and butter are completely melted and the mixture is smooth.
  4. Add the Peanuts:

    • Stir 1 cup of chopped peanuts into the caramel mixture until evenly distributed.
  5. Assemble the Bars:

    • Pour the caramel and peanut mixture over the chilled chocolate layer in the pan, spreading it evenly with a spatula.
    • Pour the remaining melted chocolate over the caramel layer, spreading it out to cover the top completely.
  6. Chill and Cut:

    • Return the pan to the refrigerator and let it chill for about 1 hour, or until the bars are firm.
    • Once set, use the foil overhang to lift the bars out of the pan.
    • Cut into bite-sized pieces and enjoy!
