Gule Lele: A Flavorful Indonesian Catfish Curry

Indulge in the delightful flavors of Gule Lele, a traditional Indonesian catfish curry that beautifully combines spices and creamy coconut milk, creating a dish that’s perfect for any occasion. This recipe is not only simple to prepare but also packed with nutrients, making it an excellent choice for a hearty meal. Serve it hot with steamed white rice for a truly satisfying experience.

Ingredients

Ingredient Quantity
Catfish (ikan lele) 500 grams
Instant curry spice mix 1 sachet
Coconut milk (Kara) 1 small pack
Tofu (tahu) 2 pieces
Tempe (fermented soybeans) 1 block
Green beans (buncis) 1 handful
Tomatoes 2 pieces
Water 500 ml
Optional seasoning To taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Catfish: Begin by thoroughly cleaning the catfish. Once cleaned, heat oil in a pan and fry the catfish until golden brown. Set aside to drain excess oil.

  2. Fry the Tofu: Cut the tofu into desired sizes and fry until it is half-cooked. Set aside as well.

  3. Cook the Curry Base: In a pot, bring 500 ml of water to a boil and add the instant curry spice mix. Stir well to combine.

  4. Add Tempe: Once the water is boiling, add the tempe, allowing it to cook for a few minutes.

  5. Incorporate Tofu and Vegetables: After the tempe has boiled, gently add the fried tofu, green beans, and chopped tomatoes. Allow the mixture to return to a boil.

  6. Add the Catfish and Coconut Milk: Once boiling again, introduce the fried catfish and pour in the coconut milk. Stir gently to ensure all ingredients are combined.

  7. Season to Taste: Taste the curry and adjust seasoning if necessary, adding any optional seasoning as desired.

  8. Final Boil: Allow the dish to come to a boil one last time, then turn off the heat.

  9. Serve: Dish out the Gule Lele while hot, pairing it with freshly steamed white rice for a complete meal.

Enjoy Your Meal!

This Gule Lele is best enjoyed warm, making it an ideal dish for sharing with family and friends. The combination of tender catfish, creamy coconut milk, and the delightful crunch of vegetables creates a comforting and flavorful experience that’s hard to resist. Enjoy every spoonful! 😊💖
