Sautéed Beef with Javanese Spices

Ingredients:

  • 250 grams of thinly sliced beef
  • 1 medium-sized onion, sliced thinly
  • Paprika (optional, to taste)

For the Spice Mix:

  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon coriander
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ inch turmeric
  • 4 candlenuts
  • A small piece of ginger
  • A pinch of nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon palm sugar
  • Sweet soy sauce (kecap manis), to taste

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Vegetables: Slice the onion and paprika thinly, then set aside.

  2. Make the Spice Paste: In a blender or mortar and pestle, combine the salt, coriander, black pepper, turmeric, candlenuts, ginger, and nutmeg. Blend until you have a smooth spice paste.

  3. Sauté the Onions: Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook until fragrant and translucent.

  4. Cook the Spice Paste: Add the spice paste to the pan with the onions. Sauté until the mixture becomes aromatic.

  5. Add the Beef: Stir in the thinly sliced beef, ensuring it’s well coated with the spice mixture. Continue to cook, stirring occasionally.

  6. Season and Simmer: Add the palm sugar and sweet soy sauce to the pan. Adjust the seasoning to taste. Cook until the beef is tender and fully cooked.

  7. Serve: Remove from heat and serve hot. Enjoy the rich, aromatic flavors of this Javanese-inspired beef dish!

This dish pairs wonderfully with steamed rice or as a flavorful addition to your next meal. Bon appétit! 🌟
