Ingredients:

  • 2 1/2 cups water
  • 1 packet (1/4 ounce) active dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon sugar

Instructions:

  1. Prepare Yeast Mixture: Pour 1/2 cup of water into a bowl and mix in the yeast and sugar until foamy. Let it sit for 5 minutes until creamy.

  2. Mix Dough: Combine the yeast mixture, remaining water, and 3 1/2 cups of bread flour in a mixer fitted with a dough hook. Mix slowly until blended, then gradually add the rest of the bread flour. Increase the speed and scrape down the sides until the dough comes together. If needed, add a tablespoon of flour at a time until the dough forms. Add salt and mix at medium speed for 10 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.

  3. Incorporate Butter: Slowly add the softened butter, one tablespoon at a time, to the dough in the mixer. The dough may come apart, but continue mixing until it pulls back together.
