Ingredients:

Flour 2 cups
Boiling Water 1/3 cup
Salt 1/2 tsp
Baking Powder 1/2 tsp
Granny Smith Apples 7
Cinnamon 1 tsp
Butter 1 1/2 tbsp
Sugar 3/4 cup

Instructions:

  1. Crust:

    • Mix shortening, 1/3 cup butter, and flour until well combined.
    • Add boiling water, salt, and baking powder. Mix well.
    • Separate the dough into 2 balls and place between 2 pieces of wax paper. Roll out each ball.
  2. Filling:

    • Peel, core, and slice the Granny Smith apples.
    • Lightly mix cinnamon and sugar with the sliced apples.
    • Heap the apple mixture into the pastry-lined pie pan and dot with 1 1/2 tablespoons of butter.
  3. Assembly:

    • Cover the apple filling with the second rolled-out crust.
    • Slit the crust to allow steam to escape during baking.
  4. Baking:

    • Preheat the oven to 425Β°F (218Β°C).
    • Bake the pie at 425Β°F (218Β°C) for 15 minutes.
    • Reduce the temperature to 350Β°F (177Β°C) and continue baking for an additional 45-60 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
