Instructions

  1. Prepare the Chow Chow:
Begin by peeling the chow chow and cutting it into small pieces. Place it in a pressure cooker with a little water and cook until it becomes soft and tender.

  2. Prepare the Coconut Mixture:
In a blender, combine the grated coconut, curry leaves, green chilies, and cumin seeds. Grind everything together into a smooth paste and set it aside.

  3. Tempering:
In a small frying pan, heat a tablespoon of oil. Once hot, add the mustard seeds and let them splutter for about 10 seconds. Next, add the curry leaves and turmeric powder. Let this mixture cook for another 10 seconds.

  4. Combine and Mix:
Add the tempered mixture and the prepared coconut paste to the cooked chow chow. Stir everything together until well combined. Add salt to taste.

  5. Serving:
Serve this delicious Chow Chow Thoran alongside a serving of mixed vegetable sambar and steamed rice for a complete and satisfying meal.

This dish is a perfect blend of flavors, with the freshness of coconut and the mild heat from the green chilies, balanced by the aromatic curry leaves and mustard seeds. It’s a delightful way to enjoy the goodness of chow chow in a quick, healthy Kerala-inspired meal. Enjoy!
